Spring Campout 2009 - Pack 127

These pictures are from the Spring campout for Scouts.  Brian, Erik, and Kylan went to McCormick's Creek near Spencer, Indiana.  The campout included 2 hikes, a couple trips through Wolf Cave, dinner and breakfast, and s'mores.  We did get wet though as it rained most of the night.

Adam, Loren and Erik came to the creek and had to figure out a way to cross

There were several dead trees along the hiking paths and Erik liked to hang out in them

Nolan, Kylan, and Erik hide out in another dead tree

This tree had fallen over exposing its roots and providing an opportunity for boys to explore

Erik and Kylan check out the tree

Erik loves climbing trees, even those on their side!

Erik peaks through the exposed roots of the tree

This is one of Jean's favorite photos...the scale of the trees to the boys is very symbolic

The boys used their walking sticks on the hike

The Scouts of Pack 127 stop to check out a small waterfall on the creek

This is the entrance to Wolf Cave.  I thought this was a tight squeeze until I saw the rest of the cave.

This is the last wide part of the cave.  You can see the water at the bottom and the short narrow path.

Erik and Adam squeeze through one of the narrow passages

The end of the cave had a very small opening that you had crawl through on your belly

I explained the cave to someone else and they said it sounded more like a crack in a rock; that is a much more appropriate name

After you crawl through the hall you come out into this area.  You can see the bottom of one of the natural bridges that existed near the end of the cave

Isaac (the boy in the black shirt) had just fallen down the side of a hill and landed on the rock; fortunately he was OK

Scouts and dads gather around the campfire back at the campsite

This photo was taken from one of our campsites looking at the other; our tent is the one of the far right

This is our food tent with the campfire on the left

A game of soccer/kickball

Erik demonstrates the proper way to kick a soccer ball

Kylan demonstrates his Vulcan greeting

Jamie Neff enjoys the campfire on a beautiful night

It's amazing how the boys are all fascinated with fire

It started raining about 11:00 at night and rained most of the night and into the morning

Kylan admires his cup of hot chocolate

Breakfast was scrambled eggs in a bag; here Michael gets his eggs cracked and dumped into the bag

Will demonstrates how you break the yoke in the bag

Doug helps add peppers, onions, ham, mushrooms and tomatoes

The boys stay warm by the fire after a long night of sleeping in the rain

A downstream view of McCormick's Creek near the waterfall

The waterfall

Kylan wanted to have his picture taken with the waterfall so he could use it for his computer wallpaper

The upper hiking path is at the top of this picture

It was interesting to see the trees growing out of the top soil on top of the limestone

Some trees grew sideways first out of the ground; isn't nature interesting?

You can see the concrete platform where our other pictures were taken
